A two day pyrography course conducted by Douglas Bell a renowned Wood Turner and Pyrographer. Using a Razertip wood burning machine you will learn the various techniques needed to create your own masterpieces. Douglas will take you through the planning stages and the exercises needed to develop your skills. All tools and equipment are supplied, all you need to bring is your creativity.

This course comprises of 10 hrs of instruction undertaken Included is a light lunch on Sunday. There is a minimum of six students and a maximum of 10 students per class.

The course aims to take both experienced and beginning pyrographers through a structured training course which will enable participants to tackle any pyrography projects with confidence and creativity.

Experience with working with wood shows around Australia has demonstrated that most people buying pyrography equipment do not properly learn basics, but start immediately on projects, thus limiting their knowledge and development of various critical techniques.

Razertip burning equipment will be provided for those without their own burners.

Participants will be taken through the equipment, with its various pens and then will be shown how to use the pens efficiently. A sampler will be started and instructions on how to make the various marks will be given.

Participants will be guided through this exercise using “The Complete Pyrography” book as a reference.

Methods of treatment and reproducing patterns prior to burning will be discussed, including;

*      Photocopying

*      Reversing the image

*      Original drawing

*      Transferring images by

v  Tracing

v   Ironing

v   Turps rubbing

v  Grid pattern

Participants will be encouraged to try all methods to ensure they have a sound knowledge of the various techniques demonstrated. Various materials will be used such as leather, paper and cardboard to show the versatility of burning as a decorative art form.

Finally, various techniques of colouring projects will be introduced.
